The annual Holiday Open House at Centre Hill Museum will take place on Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1 Centre Hill Avenue, in Petersburg. This event is sponsored by Petersburg Preservation and is a free event; donations are appreciated.

Come join Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hall Davis for a 1905 Christmas holiday celebration featuring decorations, music, entertainment, and children’s activities. Museum volunteers will give tours of the period rooms.

Some performances will be given by local vocalists Lorraine Smith and Jacquelene Brewster Hatcher, and local harpist, Colleen Potter Thorburn. Local authors, Libby Carty McNamee and Ali Pfautz, “the Story Lady” will be reading Christmas excerpts from their books. St. Nicholas will be present for photos for children of all ages.

Refreshments will be served. The museum’s gift shop is stocked with many holiday gifts ideas including books on local history, ornaments, and educational items for children.

Built in 1823 by Revolutionary War veteran Robert Bolling IV, Centre Hill remained a private home until 1936. The house features three examples of American architectural styles, Federal, Greek revival, and Colonial revival. The home was the site of two presidential visits, Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and William H. Taft in 1909.

Today, Centre Hill is a historic house museum operated by the Petersburg Preservation. For more information call (804) 733-2396.
Open house from 10a to 5p Saturday December 7. Step back in time for a day full of holiday traditions; storytime, music, crafts for the kids, treats to eat and drink and St. Nicholas too!
